Hello 8th Grade Families,

Today each 8th grader started class by analyzing our weekly quote: "Fall seven times and stand up eight." -Japanese Proverb. Then, we moved onto Sadlier.com and listened to this week's passage that was all about Toni Cade Bambara. After listening to the passage we discussed Bambara and Langston Hughes. I showed the 8th grade the poem "I Hear America Singing" by Walt Whitman. We discussed this poem and then moved onto reading the poem Langston Hughes wrote in response- "I, Too". We analyzed this poem for the central message that said I'm here too, so don't forget about me.  The last poem we looked at was "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes. The 8th graders helped me analyze this poem and break it down into pieces. They kept saying that none of the poem rhymed, which I explained happens quite often. This was a great class!

Best,
Mrs. Baier
